Ah, the end of summer... time for the annual "Erin eats her way across the Minnesota State Fair post." And so, without further ado, the foods I ate on Friday were:

I don't normally solve the Boston Globe crossword (and by "don't normally," I mean "haven't since 2004"), but I did come across a blog post proclaiming that today's puzzle contained the best crossword clue ever.
69 (across) - "The _____ mightier than the sword."
Yep, that's pretty good. (On the other hand, I own this book, so it's not the worst/best I've ever seen. But it is the most suggestive clue I've seen in mainstream print.)

A recent Onion headline: Orlando Cabrera Hates Metrodome's Tuna Casserole Smell
... except here's the problem. No one in Minnesota would call it "Tuna Casserole." It's tuna noodle hotdish. It would be like having the headline "Orlando Cabrera Hates Metrodome's Late Night Duck Duck Goose Tournament" -- Minnesotans don't play that.

Holy crap.
I don't care how awesome you think your Thursday night was -- mine was more awesome. In fact, pick your best Thursday night ever and mine still beats it. Ask any one who knows me even a little what my two biggest obsessions are and they will tell you they are baseball and The Beatles. Somewhere I even have a 7th grade art assignment reflecting this. So, Paul McCartney at Fenway Park with a two and a half hour Beatle-heavy* set? Pretty much the most awesome thing ever. *(20 of 33 songs were Beatles, 6 were Wings, and only 2 were from his latest album. The man knows why people come to see him.)
A loud rocking and rolling shout out to Chris Morse for the ticket -- who knew that Red Sox season tickets get you first dibs on rock concerts too?
Oh, and the drummer was amazing. Not only could he play the skins, but he provided some great backing harmonies too. Actually, the whole band was pretty great.
And finally, the full set list with any notes I remember about them...
Jet
Only Mama Knows
Flaming Pie
Got to Get You Into My Life
Let Me Roll It... segueing into the guitar solo from Purple Haze -- When he finished he told a story I had never heard about Jimi Hendrix. Apparently the Sgt. Pepper's album came out on a Friday. On that Sunday, two days later, Jimi Hendrix kicked off his tour... opening with "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," which he had somehow learned and rehearsed in only two days. After telling us this, Paul demonstrated how Hendrix used the wa wa feature on his guitar while he played and pointed out that it makes your guitar go way out of tune. Apparently, to help him out, Hendrix pulled a very reluctant guy named Eric out of the front row to tune it for him... Eric Clapton, that is.

A Day in the Life, segueing to Give Peace a Chance -- Shortly before "A Day in the Life" transitioned to the "Woke up, fell out of bed..." section, I called my dad and didn't say anything, just holding the phone up to the music.
